Businesswoman Joyce Akinyi who is Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala’s ex-lover has been arrested with 2kgs of suspected heroine estimated at Sh. 3 million. This is the third time Akinyi has been arrested over suspected drug trafficking.
In 2015, detectives arrested her and three others with a suspicious powder but they were later released.
In 2013, Akinyi and Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala were arrested by police at Isinya along Nairobi-Namanga highway over claims of drug trafficking.They were later released after they insisted they were carrying maize flour that they had imported from Tanzania.
Wanjala and Akinyi were detained in India in 2008 after authorities found them with undeclared huge amounts of shillings which the New Delhi’s intelligence and India’s narcotic bureau investigated if they were to be spent on drugs or if they were part of a money laundering racket.
The partner spent over one month in India’s second largest jail, Tihar Prison – Kenya’s equivalent of Kamiti Maximum Prison.
Akinyi will be charged on Monday after police complete investigation and find her accomplices not so far arrested.
