Nangina Girls High school stands out as the most populous school in Busia County and boasts of being the best extra County school in the same region. Their Botanical garden was full to capacity, with 1585 students, staff, members of the community and teachers from neighboring schools coming to give all ears to Foreign Affairs CAS Hon Ababu Namwamba.
Just as Barack Obama’s ‘Back to School’ speech that inspired students, Lupita Nyongo’s ‘Your dream is Valid’ talks, CAS Ababu’s talk was anchored on George Benard Shaw’s poem, “Some men see things as they are and say, why;I dream things that never were and say, why not!” He shared with the girls his experience at Port Victoria primary, tough times at Kolanya Boys and how he worked hard despite the challenges till he earned himself the prestigious American Fulbright scholarship to study masters in law in Washington. ” When I look at these faces, I see swanky girls, disciplined ladies and focused angels who can make it despite the challenges of life.” he said amid responses of ‘Why not’ from the girls of excellence.
The Mentorship talk was supervened by book donation and a tour of the school where he assured the administration that he will do all possible to ensure the school infrastructure is improved, from the bus, to the dining hall.
Nangina Girls joins list of schools that have got doors of opportunities opened through the Ababu Namwamba Foundation which values institutional infrastructure development as a key tool in providing a conducive environment suitable for the moulding of holistic graduates into the society.
The school, which has over 100 students taking French studies, will benefit from French Embassy scholarships and support courtesy of the good links between Hon. Ababu and republic of France. Other possible areas of partnerships include nurturing of young talents in the school under the foundation’s talent exploitation pillar.
Parents of the girls were also urged to take advantage of the revived Mulwanda Ginnery in Funyula and plant cotton as an income earner to help boost their fee paying abilities.
Rugunga and Port primary schools in Bunyala have got a click into the 21st century wonder of information technology through donation of computers with support of Slovak Aid through the embassy of Slovakia.
In Teso North, Kolanya Boys has an undergoing storey dormitory that Hon. Ababu did a fundraiser with Deputy President William Ruto to complete. Neighboring Kolanya Girls will at last have their thirst quenched with an intervention for their perrenial water crisis yonder.
Kudura Solar Energy, a Portuguese solar power initiative that was brought by Hon. Ababu is also connecting schools off-grid to cheaper and reliable solar energy that will lighten the students to education.
Ababu Namwamba Foundation is also the proud sponsor of Bunyala Sub-County and Busia County Drama and Music festivals.
